SHORT HISTORY OF
THE MG CAR CLUB CAPE TOWN CENTRE

The Club was established in 1948.

Our monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 20h00 at the Crankhandle Club house, Riebeeck St, Wynberg.

The Club has one Run per month, (either Social, Competition or Rally) normally on the Sunday after the General Meeting. The Club also participates in Multi Car Club Events. In December each year members get together for a Family Day and Car Show Day, in which cars are judged in various concours categories.

Retired Members enjoy a Social event on the last Thursday of each month. This is known as the Veteran’s Run, but any members are welcome to attend. See the latest Breed for details and booking arrangements.

The Cape Clubs (Cape Town, Southern Cape, Port Elizabeth and East London) have a Regional Gathering bi-annually during the odd numbered years. ie 2001, 2003 etc. These are organised on a rotation basis and venues vary from Centre to Centre. eg Beaufort West, Knysna, Oudtshoorn.

The seven National Clubs hold an Indaba (get together) on a bi-annual basis in even-numbered years. These are organised on a rotation basis. Here too, the prime event is the National judging of cars in various concours categories.

The Cape Town Club at present has 212 memberships (304 actual members) with  332 MGs. Within the membership about 100 members are regular participants in various events and meetings.

Most of the members live in Cape Town or the environs. Many are registered as “Country Members” living outside the Municipal Boundary of Cape Town.

The main aim of the club is for the members to enjoy their cars.
